Our Head Coach, Aftab Habib

Aftab Habib: The Flamboyant Batsman Turned Transformative Cricket Coach

Aftab Habib, fondly known as Affie, has had a distinguished first-class career, scoring over 8,000 runs during his time as a flamboyant attacking batsman at Leicestershire County Cricket Club. His consistent performances with the bat quickly earned him a call up to the England test side, where he cemented his place as a reliable middle-order batsman.

Retiring from professional cricket in 2006, Aftab embarked on a career in coaching the following year, where he quickly made a name for himself as Hong Kong’s head coach. Under his leadership, he transformed Hong Kong cricket by introducing a level of cricketing professionalism never seen before, reflected by Hong Kong’s success on the field. His greatest achievement as a coach was winning the ACC Champions Trophy with Hong Kong in 2008, alongside India and Pakistan.

Affie’s expertise and experience have been sought after by some of the best players in the world, including Kumar Sangakkara, Shahid Afridi, and Jade Dernbach. He has taken those learnings and is now helping produce quality cricketers through his academy.

Aftab’s incredible achievements as a coach also include leading Hong Kong to qualify for the 2008 Asia Cup, winning the women’s ACC T20 with Hong Kong, and winning the ACC U-19 Elite Cup, which led to U-19 World Cup qualification. He also served as the Afghanistan National Head Coach in 2011.

Aftab Habib’s impact on cricket both as a player and as a coach has been nothing short of remarkable. His legacy continues to inspire a new generation of cricketers to follow in his footsteps and strive for greatness.
